"Anew in the North East"

Purpleshirt formed during the summer of 2018 at the Summer Studios at the Sage Gateshead. Having played together for 4 years prior it was a natural progression to creating exciting new music. Mark and Luke come from a background of rock and shredding like a boss with Murray preferring the old jazz 625 set featuring the likes of Bill Evans. However, the band do find common ground with modern artists who over a recent period have really explored the ideas of bringing different genres into jazz and the culture of collaboration. Purpleshirt follows in this step creating music that appeals to the masses yet has deep roots in rock, jazz and funk.
